Dr. Marcelo E. Zappi, M.D., is a board-certified Anatomic and Clinical Pathologist with over 30 years of experience in diagnostic pathology and a specialized focus in dermatopathology. As the Medical Director of E. Zappi Dermatopathology Laboratory, Dr. Zappi provides expert oversight, ensuring the highest standards of diagnostic precision, accuracy, and patient care.
Dr. Zappi earned his medical degree from the University of Buenos Aires Medical School, followed by comprehensive residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at St. Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center in New York. He then completed a Surgical Pathology fellowship at Pennsylvania Hospital under the mentorship of Dr. Michael J. Warhol.
Since founding E. Zappi Dermatopathology Laboratory in 1978 by his father, Dr. Zappi has been a trusted partner to dermatologists, surgeons, and clinicians across New York and beyond. His broad diagnostic expertise includes melanocytic lesions, cutaneous neoplasms, inflammatory dermatoses, and complex skin biopsies. He also serves as Assistant Pathologist for the Rockland County Medical Examiner’s Office, contributing his knowledge to forensic pathology.
A published researcher and continuing educator, Dr. Zappi has authored multiple peer-reviewed studies in leading journals such as JAMA, Chest, and Modern Pathology. His work reflects a lifelong commitment to advancing pathology, with a special emphasis on accuracy, collaboration, and clinical relevance.
